CUNY Answers Call to Address Black Male Crisis

Ke n d r i c k, who has managed l i b rary programs at Columbia and Harva r d U n i v e r s i t i e s, is the new University Libra r i a n . Chancellor Matthew Goldstein recommended the appointments to the Board of Trustees following national searches. “These three outstanding appointments will provide exceptional leadership at both the University and college l e v e l ,” said Board of Tr u s t e e s Chairman Benno C. S c h m i d t , J r. Botman served for seven years as chief academic offic e r and vice president of the University of Massachusetts system before becoming special assistant to the Chancellor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, w h e r e she was also professor of political science. As CUNY’s chief academic offic e r, Botman is responsible for leading the d e v e l o p m e n t , planning and implementation of the U n i v e r s i t y ’s policies for its academic prog ra m s, including teaching and learning, instructional technology and research. Waldron is a Fulbright Scholar who received her doctorate in Latin A m e r i c a n history from Indiana University. She has held numerous senior management positions at Citibank over a 15-year period, including president of Citibank I n t e r n a t i o nal in Miami from 1991 to 1996. Baruch College, with 15,000 undergra d uate and graduate students, is home to the Zicklin School of Business, the largest collegiate business school in the nation, a s well as Schools of Arts and Sciences and Public A f f a i r s. Kendrick was director of the A c c e s s Services Division of the Columbia University Libraries from 1998 to 2004. Prior to that he was assistant director of H a r vard University’s Library for the H a r vard Depository. As CUNY’s University Libra r i a n , Kendrick heads a l i b rary system with over five million books and other formats and an annual budget of $35 million. He is responsible for integra ting the library system with the University’s t e a c h i n g , learning and research activities and improving access to information resources with other educational and cult u ral institutions in New York City. Three prominent educators with a wealth of academic and administra t i v e experience have been named to senior leadership posts at The City University. D r. Selma Botman, a Harvard University and Oxford University educated scholar specializing in Middle Eastern studies, a n d former vice president and chief academic o f ficer at the University of Massachusetts, has been named Executive Vi c e Chancellor for Academic A f f a i r s.
